Dorkdom

Tuesday, August 22nd, 2006

I know most people aren’t as big NPR/PBS dorks as me, but it’s worth noting that google video has a huge archive of Charlie Rose episodes. I don’t know how far back it goes, but it goes back at least a year or two which I’m quite happy with. I’m particularly fond of the interview with Bill Buford.

Consumer Desires

Sunday, August 20th, 2006

As with most things compulsive, this one is comeing in the middle of the night. I’m sitting at a friends house (your house blake/jackie) and typing on their macbook (your macbook blake) and desperately wishing I owned one. What’s strange about it is that part of this fantasy inclues tripple booting windows, mac os x, and linux on the same notebook which I already know is unlikely. I also know that Parallels and the latest version of Ubuntu do NOT get along. But still I want this damn notebook because the keyboard is really nice and the screen is wide and I can scroll through web pages by pressing on the track pad with two fingers. So, friends and colleagues, if I show up on Monday with a shamefull expression on my face, you’ll know that I’m $1,300 lighter in the wallet. If you’d like to help me now, you can suggest reasons why I shouldn’t spend $1,300 on a notebook or, better yet, suggest all the other things I could possibly do with that money.

p.s. - I’m also not entirely sober, so my spell is probably pretty bad.

sullnet.net

Monday, August 14th, 2006

I bought sullnet.net about a year ago for reasons that elude me today.  Well it turns out that sullnet.net originally belonged to some ISP somewhere and my DNS host allows for *@sullnet.net to be forwarded to an arbitrary address.  Not knowing that the domain used to belong to an ISP I set it up that way and low and behold I get mail to random people like crazy!  I just got an yahoo photo share thing from some lady.  So far no juicy stuff, just a ton of spam and random other crap.  Though I think Bob needs to hurry up and get his inspection renewed….
