Thoughts after Episode III

May 31st, 2005

It’s been said over and over that Star Wars is a space opera and I’ll go along with that whole heartedly. In fact, I wonder if it would benefit by embracing that more so. Here’s the idea, take out all the dialog and replace it with people who are over acting in Italian (it is melodrama) rather than under acting in english.. In really good opera, you should be able to get a sense of whats going on just from the actors physical actions and the tones of their voice so this should be sufficient. Plus we wouldn’t have to listen on Lucas’ soul crushing dialog.

That’s pretty much it. When Mace Windu is fighting Plapatine we don’t have to hear Anakin emote “I need him” like a robot in order to figure out what is going on. Having him scream “Lo ho bisogno di” while keeping his anguished visage should be sufficient.

Alternatively, can I use that fancy DVD player that’s supposed to chop out nudity and violence (so Pulp Fiction is safe for the kids) to chop out any moment where Anakin or Padme open their mouth? I think I would like the movie more then. Granted it would make Palpatine’s conversations a little one sided, but I think I can live with that.
